Bin revolution : what you need to know
ARARAT Rural City residents will notice new purple and green bins starting to appear in their communities over the coming weeks as part of council’s new waste and recycling program, Revolution Ararat.
Revolution Ararat is council’s commitment to reducing the amount of waste delivered to landfill by introducing a new residential four-bin system collection that separates waste, recycling, organics, and glass, as part of Victoria’s waste reform.
Spanning over the next eight weeks, purple and green lid bins will be delivered to all residential properties under five hectares by council staff members.
Memorial walk returns to Ararat
A memorial walk will return to Ararat in September in memory of people who’ve died from suicide.
Ararat Suicide Prevention Awareness Group plans to hold its second memorial walk in the Alexandra Gardens, bringing together family and friends of people who’ve suicided.
Say trees!
DESPITE being in the middle of an icy winter, the weather was kind to the volunteers and locals who joined with Ararat Landcare and workers from Ararat Rural City Council for last weekend’s tress planting program.
Council staff assisted volunteers by using their machinery to dig good sized holes to assist the volunteers to plant 102 native trees.
Ararat Hospital benefits from solar
EAST Grampians Health Service is saving tens of thousands of dollars on its annual power bill following the successful installation of a solar carpark.
The new system was installed on the roof of the health service’s new undercover carpark, providing shade and weather protection for visitors as well as contributing to energy generation on site.
Movie night success for Auxiliary
MEMBERS of the Willaura Health Care Auxiliary were pleased with the community’s response to their recent movie night fundraiser; “Dream Horse”.
Over seventy children and adults watched the film on the Memorial Hall’s relatively new ‘big screen’.
Delacombe Way works in final stage
CREWS have recently laid a final layer of crushed rock on Delacombe Way, forming a 300-millimetre-thick foundation for the sealing of the road.
The $478,000 Delacombe Way project, funded by the Victorian Government as part of the AgriLinks Upgrade Program, includes earthworks, drainage works and reconstruction of 720 metres of road in Willaura.
Celebrating Ararat’s newest Australians
ARARAT Rural City welcomed 16 new Australian citizens at a Citizenship Ceremony held at Alexandra Oval Community Centre on Wednesday.
Those who took the oath were Eva Dienel, Nolie Duman-Ag, Alexsandrea Duman-Ag, Althea Duman-Ag, Alyzza Duman-Ag, Eilon Duman-Ag, Lauren Givhan. Lance Apita, Marina Apita, Aria Apita, Rey Apita, Pragati Andurkar, Prasad Andurkar, Harshita Andurkar, Pranad Andurkar and Navjot Dhaliwal.
